Kent Connects is holding a one-day facilitated workshop

where Socitm Consulting experts will help you and your colleagues move this agenda forward:

• Understand the carbon footprint of your current ICT and customer service operations
• Learn about successful initiatives in the UK and elsewhere to reduce the environmental impact of delivering services to citizens
• Discover how green awareness and more flexible working methods can save your authority money
• Lay the foundations of an effective and realistic Green ICT action plan
• Find out how to monitor progress using Green ICT key performance indicators

Concern about the environment is now part of mainstream thinking. Citizens are changing their own behaviour and expect their local authority to do likewise. Many councils are taking a leading role in areas such as waste management and building control, but paradoxically the ICT service - usually seen as a green problem area - also offers considerable scope for reducing your authority's carbon footprint.

A strategic approach to Green ICT can make a real difference. Not only will it reduce the direct impact of ICT hardware through green procurement, usage and disposal, but much more importantly it can enable more environmentally-friendly service delivery and working patterns. It can also generate real cost savings.
